Ed Howard talks about his favorite memory playing baseball for Mount Carmel
Ed Howard, the Cubs 16th overall pick in the 2020 MLB Draft, talked with Cole Wright on Cubs 360 Daily about his favorite memory playing for Mount Carmel High School.
Though his senior year was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic, Howard recalls one of his favorite memories while playing for Mount Carmel.
“We played a conference game against rivalry high school Saint Laurence. We were in the 10th inning and they hit a grand slam against us to take the lead. It was 10-6. I remember everybody thought the game was over. It was getting dark outside and they were about to call the game soon. Our coach giving us that pep talk and us coming together as a team, we got the bases loaded but we ended up hitting the grand slam to tie the game up,” Howard said. “I got a base hit and I got on base. Later, I stole second base and my teammate Diego brought me in and we walked that game off.”
From that game, Howard understood what it meant to play for Mount Carmel.
“That one game just represents who Mount Carmel is. They never quit and they never give up. I would say that’s one of my memories that I will always think of when I think of Mount Carmel,” Howard said.
