Cubs fan guide to 2020 MLB season
Now that we have official word about the 2020 MLB season, let’s lay out all the details we know right now:
- 60-game schedule
- Opening Day July 23 or 24
- Spring Training 2.0 to begin July 1 at Wrigley Field
- Teams expected to play games in their home parks
- Regular season ends in late September (likely Sept. 27)
- Standard postseason format (10 teams — division winners and 2 Wild-Card teams per league)
- Universal DH will be instituted for the season to aid in player safety. Here’s how the Cubs could approach an extra hitter in the lineup
- Cubs’ schedule will consist mostly of games against NL Central foes and will be based on geography with some games against AL Central
- Roster size: 30 to start, will move to 26 after first few weeks
- Trade deadline Aug. 31
- Three-batter rule will remain for relief pitchers
- In extra-inning games, teams will start an inning with a runner on second base
