Chicago Sky unveil new mascot ahead of upcoming homestand

4 weeks agoKarli Bell

There is a new mascot that will be seen around Wintrust Arena starting on Wednesday, Aug. 28th. The Chicago Sky unveiled Skye the Lioness as their new mascot of the franchise on Monday, August 26.

The choice of a lioness was made with Chicago in mind as a nod to the lions that stand at the front of the Art Institute on Michigan Ave. Lionesses also “embody strength, feminine power, grace and courage to overcome obstacles” according to the release sent out by the Sky on Monday.

This move comes at the middle of a season where fans clamored for a new mascot on social and even at games, handing out #NoMoreSkyGuy stickers.

The new mascot was designed by Real Characters, Inc., the same company who created famous mascots like Rocky of the Denver Nuggets and Harry of the Atlanta Hawks.

Skye will be seen for the first time at the Sky’s home game against the Washington Mystics on Wednesday, Aug. 28th. Tip time for the game is set for 7 p.m. on Marquee Sports Network.
